How did this happen? Who said it was okay for this boy to grow up? You blink your eyes... and look where your baby is. We've been prompting Ty about his age for a couple of weeks now: "How old are you going to be Ty?" and he flashes a little gansta "L" shape and proudly announces "2!" And then the joke goes... "Are you a big boy Ty, or a Baby?" And he coyly smiles and says "Baby!" and then you say, "Noooo, you're 2. You're a big boy." And he hollers louder: "BABY!" and smiles and gives you a hug.

If only
that could last forever. But alas December the 12th came this year and the Big Boy turned 2 with some fanfare.

And last year- Ty could have cared less about the pressies and the cake. This year- he was alllll over it! It would be an understatement to say that I am a fan of the "themed" birthday parties. No surprise there~ Ben helped come up with this year's theme. We received
The Elf on the Shelf from our good friends the Backebergs and this little elf, dubbed Charlie White, has been hiding around our house since we opened our gift (between his trips to the North Pole to let Santa know how we're doing, of course)

So, what is more fun than a Minitare Elf Party around Christmas time? Not much- if you're two. So it was all mini: mini pizzas with mini pepperonis and mini candy canes and mini carrots, tomatoes, broccoli and of course mini cupcakes. Ty's special birthday cake here was the Biggest thing around. Which he whole-heartedly enjoyed!

Each cousin got an elf hat and was set to work downstairs in Santa's workshop decorating the Elf houses that Mick brought home from work. The biggest boxes I'd ever seen turned into perfect tiny houses for our elves!

Even Lucky Bunny got in on the fun. You can see Tyler scampering after him here! so much fun.

Ty carefully decorated his pizza as well. So yummy. Micky smoked/grilled them on the Traeger and according to the Merritt's~ that's the best way to do it.

I think the kids are in agreement here. They slugged down an entire Costco pack of those mini juices, however.

The happy elf helpers. Amazingly enough they were busy for a good 2+ hours. I guess a basement is good for something!

And then time for cake. Tears last year... and licking his lips this time around. Perhaps it's the sprinkles. Those make everything
That much more delicious.

Don't you agree?

Such a big boy. "no
Baby!" with a smile.

So regardless of my wishes, time marches on. Tyler~ you're a joy to be around. Your funny spirit and definite spunk challenge us and help us to appreciate time spent together. You adore stories and will sit for 4 in a row and hold your pointer finger up, "one mo' jus' one mo'!" and of course we cave. Your laugh and delight in your brothers is a constant source of entertainment and joy for us. Who knew you were just what we needed? We don't need an elf to tell us that... and I thank God everyday for giving you to us as one of our most precious blessings. If you were to close this...you'd blow a kiss and pretend to catch mine. Happy Birthday, dear one. We love you.
